The elements of romantic 1970s cottage style encompasses all the things every Adored Vintage girl loves: soft muted colors, romantic feminine silhouettes, and ditsy floral prints.
Since I started Adored Vintage began as a vintage women's clothing boutique )I started peddling vintage back in 2004!) I have had so many years of handling, researching, and selling authentic one of a kind vintage clothing. Notably my favorite eras have always been the 1910s, the 1930s, and the 1970s and I feel like the modern vintage inspired clothing I choose for Adored Vintage encapsulates all the eras of fashion I love mixed in with the feminine and romantic aesthetic I adore.
A Brief History of Romantic 1970s Cottage Style
First, we must know a bit of vintage history! I'll keep it quite brief, I promise! This romantic and feminine 70s cottage look, sometimes it crosses over to more romantic 70s prairie looks, was made popular in the late 1960s to the 1970s by designers Jessica McClintock (American) for the labels Gunne Sax and Young Edwardian and silhouettes by Biba (English). In later years a new household name, Laura Ashley (English), would join the ranks of romantic and feminine cottage and prairie inspired silhouettes. At Adored Vintage, we have sold dozens upon dozens of vintage Gunne Sax and vintage Young Edwardian dresses as well as vintage Laura Ashley dresses. I covet them also, so have quite a few in my personal vintage collection.
