1800-1805 Regency Red Print Dress from England

Publié par ADORED VINTAGE le 06 mai, 2018

I have such an affinity for small uniformed prints in red and blue set against almost white backdrops. This British Regency era dress from The Met Museum features a wonderful print (I wish there were close ups!) because perhaps this is an embroidered pattern and not a printed one? Ahh, one shall never know unless seen in person! Where I'd Wear It Now This antique dress again is decidedly modern and has that folky pastoral look I love. Paired with flat sandals, I'd wear this to go explore the quaint coastal town of Astoria, Oregon with a big sunhat. Channel The...

1820-1829 Regency Cotton Bodice Undergarment

Publié par ADORED VINTAGE le 29 avril, 2018

When I first saw this Regency era bodice undergarment from the Victoria and Albert London Collection I for sure thought, that is SO modern! It has a very late 1940s early 50s look. You could see it with high waist shorts that flare out a bit or even high waist trousers in a soft cream cotton. Right?! But shucks, this is 200 years old and it was worn as UNDERWEAR. I swear, fashion history is incredible!  Where I'd Wear It Now I'd pair this with high waisted trousers or maybe an a-line linen midi skirt with buttons along the front. This...

1815 Regency Gauze Cotton Gown

Publié par ADORED VINTAGE le 22 avril, 2018

There is something so poetic, romantic, and lovely about the construction details of this 1815 Regency era gown in sheer gauze cotton. I could easily see this dress being recreated and walking down the runway for Luisa Becarria.  Channel The Look Go for a sheer maxi or midi length dress with puff sleeves that features gather and ruching details. If you want to channel this look with a top, pay close to attention to the style of sleeves and the way the fabric drapes. You want to capture the poetic romance of this Regency era gown. 1812 Regency French Fashion Plate

Publié par ADORED VINTAGE le 15 avril, 2018

This pale spring green gingham dress (well, at least I think it's gingham) is Regency period from France. Many of the best dressmakers were French and the social elite would look at fashion plates to get ideas for new styles. The not so social elite would gather inspiration from these fashion plates and sew the dresses themselves.  Where I'd Wear It Back Then Strolling on the green while sipping lemonade Where I'd Wear It Now Strolling at the park drinking an Arnold Palmer Channel The Look Go for a maxi length dress or skirt in a gingham print and pair with...

Early Regency 1796-1798 Floral Embroidered Cotton Gown

Publié par ADORED VINTAGE le 08 avril, 2018

My dream history closet includes this early Regency era cotton gown featuring the sweetest all over floral embroidery that gives it a bit of a pastoral folky look. Aren't the pansies so sweet?  Where I'd Wear It Back Then Probably listening to Marianne practicing on the pianoforte while I worked on my needlepoint Where I'd Wear It Now Going on a picnic with friends along a river. I'd be barefoot and would have wild flowers stuck in my hair. Channel The Look This antique Regency dress is refreshingly modern. Go for a midi or maxi length dress featuring an all over floral...

Regency Period 1805-1810 Net Cotton Lace Dress

Publié par ADORED VINTAGE le 01 avril, 2018

My dream history closet would definitely have this beautiful Regency period cotton and silk lace gown. This dress is from the Costume Institute at The Met Museum. Where I'd Wear It Back Then A weekend ball (but of course!) where my BFF Lizzy Bennet and I can talk about how Mr. Darcy is totally pretentious, but also super handsome. Where I'd Wear It Now Renewing my wedding vows to my Faramir overlooking the picturesque Oregon coast while the sun sets.   Channel The Look This dress is over 200 years old and yet so many of the details are relevant for today. Go...
